Aprajita Lal's Solo Show: Where Light Lingers
Welcome to My Solo Show: Where Light Lingers

I’m absolutely thrilled to invite you into my world for my solo exhibition, 'Where Light Lingers.' This show has been a long time coming, and it feels so right to be sharing it with you all. It’s running from September through October 2026 at the beautiful Visual Arts Center in Summit, New Jersey. Each piece you’ll see is a piece of my soul, crafted with intention and passion, and I truly hope it resonates with you. I’d be honored if you could join me for the opening reception on September 25th – having you there would
mean the absolute world to me.

My Inspiration: The Magic of Light

You know, the magic of light has always pulled me in. It has this incredible power to take something ordinary, something we might overlook every day, and transform it into something utterly breathtaking. For 'Where Light Lingers,' I really wanted to dive deep into how light interacts with surfaces, how it changes its mood from one moment to the next, and the feelings it can stir within us. Have you ever stopped to notice the way the sun catches a single dewdrop in the early morning, or the hushed feeling a room gets as dusk begins to fall? That’s the essence I’ve been chasing. Every painting in this collection is, in its own way, a conversation I’m having with light itself, trying to capture its fleeting beauty and profound impact.

So, what inspired me to focus on light for this exhibition? It truly stems from a lifelong fascination with its transformative qualities. I see light not just as illumination, but as an active participant in shaping our perception of the world. It’s the silent storyteller that reveals form, texture, and emotion. I wanted to explore that dialogue – the way light sculpts and defines, the way it can evoke a sense of peace or a burst of energy. It’s in those subtle shifts that I find endless artistic exploration.

    Bringing the Vision to Life

The journey of creating these works was a deeply immersive experience. It began with quiet observation, watching the subtle dance of light unfold in nature. I’d spend hours just watching how sunlight filtered through the leaves of a tree, how it glistened on the surface of water, or the long, dramatic shadows that stretched across the ground as the day drew to a close. My goal was to translate that overwhelming sense of wonder and connection I felt into something tangible, something that could live on a canvas. Every brushstroke, every careful choice of color, was guided by this singular desire: to bring that luminous, ethereal quality to life. It’s about freezing those fleeting moments when light truly seems to sing, to burst with its own energy and beauty.

During my process, I often found myself experimenting with layering and glazes to mimic the way light diffuses and reflects. I wasn’t just painting a subject; I was painting the quality of light itself. Sometimes, a piece would take unexpected turns as I reacted to how the pigments interacted under different lighting conditions in my studio. It’s a delicate balance, trying to capture that ephemeral glow without losing the solid form of the subject. It’s a technical challenge, yes, but also an emotional pursuit – trying to bottle that feeling of pure light.

The Collector's Eye: What You'll Discover

When you stand before these pieces, my greatest hope is that you feel a profound sense of warmth and perhaps a moment of quiet discovery. I often think about the collector, about that moment when they encounter a piece that just *speaks* to them, that resonates deeply with their own life experiences and memories. I don’t just want my art to be something beautiful to adorn a wall; I want it to be a companion, a gentle reminder of the simple yet profound beauty that exists all around us, often hidden in plain sight. It's about the possibility of bringing a piece of that captured light, that fleeting moment of beauty, into your own personal space, to be cherished every day.

What kind of mood or feeling do I hope viewers take away? Ultimately, I want them to feel uplifted and connected. I hope the artwork provides a moment of pause, a chance to breathe and appreciate the subtle wonders of the world. If a piece can evoke a cherished memory or inspire a new perspective, then I feel I’ve succeeded. It’s about creating an emotional anchor, a piece of beauty that can enhance daily life and serve as a constant source of quiet joy.
